It was a scary scene in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Monday night as Carolina Hurricanes goalie Eddie Lack was stretchered off the ice following the Red Wings’ overtime victory.

The injury occurred on the final shot of the game when Red Wings centre Andreas Athanasiou bumped Lack while scoring the game-winning goal. Lack stayed down for a while after the collision, but both teams remained by his side until he left the ice.

Lack gave everyone a thumbs up as he was stretchered off the ice, letting everyone know that he was alert and alright.

Shortly after the game, the team released this statement on their 29-year-old goalie.

While you never know how serious these things are when they happen, it was great to see Lack give the thumbs up to the fans as he was leaving the ice. What’s even better than a thumbs up is a tweet from Lack himself, who thanked the fans and updated them on his current status.

Lack will probably have to miss some time now, and quite possibly the rest of the season, but all that matters in this situation is that he’s alert and well and he will be firing off some fantastic tweets again in no time.

We’re sure some of his teammates will be by his side tonight with a few tacos.
